Martin Peretz, journalist, academic and entrepreneur, has been Editor-in Chief of The New Republic since 1974. The New Republic is a Washington-based weekly journal of politics and culture. In addition he was a professor at Harvard University and the University of Chicago where he lectured on issues of nationalism, ethnicity and political identity.
Peretz received his B.A. degree in History from Brandeis University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in political science from Harvard University. He holds eight honorary doctorates from colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. In 1982, he was awarded the Jerusalem Medal, and was for many years Chairman and then Honorary Chairman of The Jerusalem Foundation
